Video is king and is absolutely everywhere!
The world is certainly the oyster for small business owners today looking to build their brand awareness through the power of video. Video is king and is absolutely everywhere and people love it!
Once video marketing was in the hands of big business because production costs were so high but the rewards were equally high because of the mass TV audience their 30 second commercials reached.
But today, the playing field has been leveled because the internet is all consuming and also video making equipment and editing software is very accessible to any mere mortals looking to hone their skills.
The real game changer is smartphone video because not only can they shoot good quality videos but these can be edited in the phone themselves and then uploaded to a website or social media and so, the once high production fees of big business has been cut to where video is now easily affordable and easier to produce.
This is the obvious reason why video will soon amount to at least 75% of all internet traffic. Now, the downside comes when you need to get your videos to stand out in this mass video market.
Following my 5 simple tips will certainly help you to increase video engagement time with your audience.
1. Short is sweet!
Now, it is agreed that today's western culture has developed into having the attention span of a gnat so making a long video will cause the video maker problems in terms of getting people to watch the video all the way through.Studies have shown that on average the attention of people viewing video content begins to wane at around 60 seconds, so logic will tell you to keep your videos shorter or sometimes as short as possible, depending on the video content obviously.
The majority of viewers will engage with a video for the first 45 seconds but as it approaches the one minute mark, their attention span is going to get tested and the viewing count may begin to dwindle.
2. Cut the crap and get to the point!
The problem starts when people want to include too many topics and areas of discussion that prolongs the video and confuses the viewer. Identify one topic and add maybe one or two key points that are relative to that topic. For example a painter [topic] may want to speak about a particular brush that works on a particular surface and also highlight the brushes that don't work so well on the same surface.
3.Start the video with an attention grabber!
Example: "Discover why this brush is key to painting your house"Ok, we know that videos need to be short to stand a chance of retaining viewer engagement from beginning to end, and to assist this method we need to make our point of what will follow if you continue watching, otherwise you will potentially lose viewers before they have started on your video journey. We know that video engagement decreases the longer the video runs, so its vital we put our message within the first 15 seconds of the video to effectively capture your viewers or run the risk of losing them to the dreaded attention span.
4. Be well versed in your content!
If we don't script our video content and just be random, then unless you are versed in this style of delivery it will more than likely leave your viewer confused and they will be gone. In an ideal world it is better to write your content and then learn how to deliver an overview of what you wrote without being too precise, so maybe write your script and work from bullet points to deliver a more relaxed style that will seem more natural as if you are speaking off the top of your head. Good content and delivery is what will keep your viewers watching till the end. Be specific in what you want to say and don't ramble from one point to another.
5. Call to action
